Running Power Stations

Kolaghat Thermal Power Station (KTPS) – 6 X 210 MW

Kolaghat Tharmal Power Station

Located near Mecheda at East Midnapore district along the Main Line of South Eastern Railways that connects Howrah and Nagpur on the banks of Rupnarayan River, the Kolaghat Thermal Power Station has the highest capacity among the State Sector Utilities of West Bengal.

Conveniently located near Haldia, Kolaghat Thermal Power Station has clear access via roadways through Haldia Road, which takes off from NH-6 at Kolaghat. The Station’s Railways siding is an extension of the Mecheda Railway Station that is located at an approximate distance of 1.5 kn from the site.

In its first phase, three units were commissioned between 1984 and 1990. In the next phase, another three units were commissioned between 1991 and 1993. Today, with six units, all operational, the total installed capacity of the Station stands at 1260 MW.

Milestones

• 1 times Meritorious Award winner from CEA since inception on account of PLF, Peak Generation, Low Specific Oil Consumption, along with Performance…

• Highest Generation Achieved during the year 2004-2005 is 7385 MU at a PLF of 66.19%, since inception.

• Prior to adopting the New Technology, of Ammonia – based Flue Gas Conditioning System the level of SPM at the outlet of the chimney was 750 Mg/Nm3, a level that was higher than the prevailing stipulated value, 150 Mg/Nm3 of the Pollution Control Board. After adopting this system the level of SPM reduced to a remarkable value, <100Mg/Nm3

• Kolaghat Thermal Power Station received ISO 9001 – 2000 certification from the Bureau of Indian Standard. Till date it remains to be only ISO certified Power Station in West Bengal.



Bakreswar Thermal Power Station

Bakreswar Thermal Power Station (BKTPP) – 3 X 210 MW ( Phase-I) & 2X210 MW ( Phase-II)

Situated 12 Km from Suri, the chief Sub-divisional Town of Birbhum district, Bakreswar Thermal Power Project is just 260 Km away from Kolkata. The project has clear rail track access via Chinpai on the Andal-Sinthia Line of Eastern Railways.

In its first phase, three nos. units were commissioned within March 2001 and In second phase, two nos. 210 MW units were synchronized between December 2007 to March 2009.For the Mani Plant work was entrusted on turnkey basis to Itochu & BHEL and Larsen & Toubro was awarded the job of Coal Handling Plant.At present, Bakreswar Thermal Power Project is running with five operational units having total installed capacity of 1050 MW. Expansion of another 600 MW unit (sixth unit) has been envisaged for implementation during the Eleventh-Five-year Plan period.

Bandel Thermal Power Station (BTPS) – 4 X 80 MW + 1 X 210 MW

Bandel Thermal Power Station

Nestled on the western bank of Bhagirathi River, Bandel Thermal Power Station is just 1 Km from the Assam Road and connected with a heavy duty metal lead road 3 km off the Grand trunk Road, NH – 2. Bandel Thermal Power Station’s nearest railhead is Tribeni on the Bandel-Katwa-Azimgunj Line on the Eastern Railways.

In the first phase, four units of 80 MW each were commissioned in the year 1956-66. While Boilers were supplied by B&W, USA, the Turbines were sourced from Westinghouse, USA.

Successfully meeting the power sector demand for the State for more than four decades, Bandel Thermal Power Station still remains a prominent player in the state’s power supply bchain. Bandel Thermal Power Station’s fifth unit with a capacity of 210 MW, the then fifth one in the country and first in Eastern India, was installed in 1982. Today, with five operational units the total installed capacity of the station stands at 530 MW.

• After completion of Short Term Renovation and Modernization work of Unit V (210 MW), Generation of the unit could be raised to its full capacity of 210 MW after a long span of 8 years.

Santaldih Thermal Power Station

Santaldih Thermal Power Station (STPS) – 4 X 120 MW + 1x250 MW

Located on the right bank of Damodar River, Santaldih Thermal Power Station Is situated in the Purulia Distric. The Station's nearest Railhead is Santaldih Rail Station on the Adra-Gomoh section of the South Eastern Railways.

In the first phase, four units of 120 MW each and In the 2nd phase, one 250 MW unit were commissioned. At present, these Units are meeting demand-side gap of the state's power sector. M/s BHEL was awarded the main plant on turnkey basis. While Mcnally Bharat had completed the Coal Handling Plant and SPML had done the Raw water make-up System.

Sagardighi Thermal Power Station

Sagardighi Thermal Power Station

Sagardighi Super Thermal Power Station site is located at Manigram Village, 13 KM north of Sagardighi town by the side of the SMGR( Sagardighi-Manigram-Gankar- Raghunathganj)Road at a distance 20 KM from National Highway 34 in Murshidabad District, West Bengal and around 240 KM from Kolkata. The nearest rail station is manigram adjacent to the site on Bandel- Barhawara branch line and 6.5 KM from Sagardighi Railway Station on Sainthia- Azimgunj line of Eastern Railway.
In the first phase, two units of 300 MW each were synchronised on 21.12.2007 and 13.08.2008 respectively. The Main Plant Package was awarded to DEC, China.
In the second phase, necessary clearances received for 2x500 MW sub-critical units. Preparation of specifications for different packages is in process.Tender for Main plant package has been published.
